It was done by sculptor Angus Taylor, who also created the Solomon Mahlangu statue in Mamelodi. Taylor was able to make contact with some of the Tshwane descendants. Chief Tshwane lived in the 1600s and his sculpture was based on photos of his descendants and drawings done by missionaries.
